MG announced Select Channel, from there the company will sell luxury cars; premium Cyberster also included in the list

JSW and MG Motor India recently announced an all-new retail channel called MG Select. This will be dedicated to more premium products from the brand. However, the company has not shared any details about the models that will be sold through the MG Select channel. Recently, Gaurav Gupta, Chief Growth Officer, MG Motor India, told Autocar India that we are planning to launch it by Q1 2025. So, in about 6 months, we will be in the market with our first product along with its features.

What to expect from MG Select Channel?

The MG Select channel will be exclusively dedicated to hybrids, PHEVs and EVs, which MG calls NEVs (New Energy Vehicles). The company has made it clear that it will introduce four new products to select channels in the next two years. These will be locally assembled here. The company will start with 12 select experience centres across the country in the first phase. After that, it will continue to add these centres. Eventually, these will be opened in tier-2 cities as well.

On the status of these models, Gaurav Gupta had said that the Select channel will be different from the existing MG channel. It will remain a mass-market brand. The Select channel will offer entry-level luxury models. There will be a standalone facility with workshops. There will be no overlap between the two channels. He also said that initially, we are looking at such products that will help us make a mark in the entry-level luxury space. We believe there is a lot of opportunity there to offer something new to the customers. We will have a good mix of product, price and experience.

Talking about the product, MG had introduced the Cyberstar in India earlier this year, which is one of the possible candidates under the Select channel. Cyberster is MG’s first electric sports car, which is already available for sale in the international market. It has two battery and motor options. The entry-level model comes with a single 308 PS motor mounted on the rear axle, with a 64 kWh battery. Its range is 520 km. The top-end Cyberstar has a 77 kWh battery, with a CLTC rated range of 580 km. Which has two motors that combined produce 544 PS and 725 Nm.
