Yamaha has announced the global launch of a new motorcycle on October 9, 2024, which is likely to be the YZF-R9. The Japanese manufacturer published a new teaser on its social networks with the caption “A new era rises. October 9”. The video shows a countdown that stops at the number “9” and gives us a glimpse of a full-fairing sports bike. When released, the Yamaha R9 is expected to slot between the recently introduced 2025 R1 model and the YZF-R7.

What to expect from the Yamaha YZF-R9?

The Yamaha YZF-R9 is expected to be based on the existing MT-09 hyper-naked motorcycle. Currently, the Yamaha MT-09 is the only one in the range to be spared the touch of full fairing. So the YZF-R9 motorcycle can inherit most of the components from the MT-09.

Yamaha YZF-R9 engine Powertrain

The upcoming Yamaha R9 features an 890cc liquid-cooled in-line three-cylinder engine, which powers the MT-09. This engine generates 117 hp at 10,000 rpm and a torque of 93 Nm at 7,000 rpm. The unit will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox and a multi-plate clutch.

The YZF-R9 is expected to feature similar styling to the flagship R1 and R7 models. It can be made on a diamond frame. It may have USD front forks at the front and an adjustable link-style swingarm at the rear. Braking functions should be carried out by hydraulic discs, with a travel of 298 mm at the front.
