The Indian two-wheeler market witnessed tremendous growth in September 2024. But even after such huge sales, Honda could not win the race for number 1. This is the reason why Hero won the number 1 crown.
The Indian two-wheeler industry witnessed tremendous growth in September 2024, led by Hero, Honda, TVS and Bajaj. Leading two-wheeler brands recorded total sales of 19,38,193 units, up from 16,47,192 units in September 2023, an annual growth of 17.67%. This growth is a positive sign of not only the recovery of the two-wheeler market but also the month-on-month (MoM) growth. This is an increase of 18.56% compared to August 2024, where 16,34,738 units were sold.
Two-wheel sales in September 2024
Hero MotoCorp has maintained its dominance in the domestic two-wheeler segment. 6,16,706 units were sold in September 2024. This represents a significant annual growth of 24.77% compared to the sales of 4,94,270 units during the same period last year. Hero’s domestic sales on a monthly basis witnessed a significant growth of 25.28% from the 4,92,263 units sold in August 2024, demonstrating its continued appeal among Indian consumers.
Honda closely followed Hero with 5,36,391 units, an annual growth of 9.07% compared to 4,91,802 units in September 2023. The brand also witnessed a marginal monthly growth of 9.09% compared to 4 91,678 units sold in August 2024.
TVS Motor Company had a bumper month by selling 3,69,138 units in September 2024, representing a year-on-year growth of 22.84% compared to 3,00,493 units in September 2023. This growth represents growth impressive monthly growth of 27.70% from 2,89,073 units sold in August 2024.
Bajaj Auto also recorded strong numbers, with sales of 2,59,333 units nationally, an annual growth of 28.06% compared to 2,02,510 units in September 2023. On a monthly basis, Bajaj recorded a growth of 24.31% compared to 2,08,621 units sold in August 2024.
Royal Enfield achieved sales of 79,362 units in September 2024, registering a marginal growth of 6.87% compared to 74,261 units in September 2023. The brand witnessed a solid growth of 20.94% compared to 65,623 units sold in August 2024.
Suzuki sales decline
Suzuki, on the other hand, was the only major two-wheeler brand to experience a decline. Sales amounted to 77,263 units in September 2024, compared to 83,856 units in September 2023, a decrease of 7.86% year-on-year. Suzuki also saw a decline of 11.68% from 87,480 units sold in August 2024.
