Kia has inaugurated the Hyundai Motor Group’s first electric vehicle manufacturing plant. Kia Gwangmyeong EVO Factory Kia Autoland is located in Gwangmyeong (South Korea). Here, Kia will mass produce the EV3 and EV4 models. The new factory will have an annual production capacity of 150,000 units. If we talk specifically about this factory, here we will see advanced manufacturing machines. Water-based painting and autonomous robotic processes will be presented here. The EVO factory will usher in a new era of electrification through the production of Kia’s range of high-quality electric vehicles.
The new South Korean factory, located at Kia Autoland Gwangmyeong, has a production capacity of 150,000 units per year. Production of the Kia EV3 is expected to begin here in the first half of this year, followed by that of the EV4 in the first half of 2025. Inspired by the word “Evolution”, the Kia Gwangmyong EVO factory reflects how Kia will continue to evolve. transform and pursue its ambitions to become a leader in future mobility.
To celebrate the completion of the project, Kia welcomed around 150 guests at a ceremony held at the Kia Gwangmyeong EVO factory, including Jun Young Choi, Kia executive vice president and head of the domestic production division; Gwangmyeong City Mayor Seung Won Park and members of the 22nd National Assembly Oh Kyeong Lim and Nam Hee Kim.
Let us tell you that EVO Gwangmyeong Factory is an electric vehicle supporting factory, with a total investment of 401.6 billion won and spanning approximately 60,000 square meters. This will be the main base for the production of Kia’s popular electric models.
Kia spent about a year converting Gwangmyeong Plant 2, completed in 1987, to produce small internal combustion engine vehicles such as the Kia Pride, Avella and Stonic. The Kia Gwangmyong EVO factory is also significant as it is the group’s first dedicated electric vehicle factory and was completely renovated on an existing factory site and established as a hub for production of new generation vehicles.
Kia plans to launch the brand’s mid-size electric sedan, the EV4, in the first half of 2025. Kia will use the EVO Gwangmyeong plant as a key production base for the production of its EV models, including EV3 and EV4, with capacity annual production of 150,000 units.
