Maruti Grand Vitara and FrontX SUVs have reached 66% of the SUV and MPV portfolio via Nexa. Let us know its details in detail.
Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa network, which primarily comprises SUVs and MPVs, has been growing steadily in sales. Since the financial year ended March 2020 (FY20), only two SUVs, Grand Vitara and FrontX, have captured over 66% of the premium channel sales. At the same time, XL6 and Invicto have contributed over 30% to the SUV and MPV sales of Maruti’s premium outlets since FY20. Let’s take a closer look at the sales figures.
Grand Vitara, FrontX and XL6 are the key leaders in Nexa’s portfolio, accounting for 5,96,999 units or 95.74% of Nexa UV sales from April 2019 to August 2024. These include sales of the Grand Vitara, launched in September 2022, at 2,17,968 units, which is 34.95% of Nexa UV sales. In early July, Grand Vitara crossed the 2 lakh sales mark.
Fronx, launched in April 2023, is enjoying huge success. The next SUV is the compact SUV Frontex, which has achieved a share of 31.22 per cent with sales of 1,94,702 units. It has crossed the 1.5 lakh units mark just 14 months after its launch. Baleno-based Forensic has crossed the 2 lakh sales mark in mid-September.
The XL6 is now entering its sixth year. It has acquired 1,84,329 units and a 29.56 percent stake. XL6 achieved its best annual sales of 45,131 units in fiscal 2024. In the first quarter of the current fiscal year, it achieved sales of 10,073 units, which is an increase of 11 percent over the same three months of the previous fiscal year.
All three models were among the top 20 best-selling commercial vehicles in FY2024, with the Frontex at No. 8, the Grand Vitara at No. 9 and the XL6 at No. 20. Their excellent performance continues in the current financial year. In the period April-August 2024, Fronx is at No. 5 (59,967 units). The Grand Vitara and XL6 remain at No. 9 (45,484 units) and No. 20 (15,736 units), respectively.
The Jimny 5-door has clocked sales of just 21,042 units since its launch in June 2023, a monthly average of 1,402 units. The Invicto MPV, launched in July 2023 at Rs 24.79 lakh, clocked total sales of 5,538 units in August.
In the last financial year, Maruti Suzuki (Erina and Nexa) set a new record in commercial vehicle sales with 6,42,296 units, of which Nexa held a share of around 50 per cent. With 7 months to go in the current financial year, Maruti Suzuki continues to retain its title as the No.1 UV manufacturer.
